    About The Grain and Seed Building

    The Grain and Seed building was built around the turn of the Century as the town's feed and grain store.  Additional uses over the years include a bank and more recently the offices of the Lockhart Indepent School District.  The Lockhart Economic Development Corporation currently occupies part of the building along Market St.

    About Lockhart

     The town's economic growth began with the arrival of the railroad in the late 19th century, when the town became a regional shipping center for local cotton. Following the arrival of the railroad, immigrants arrived in Lockhart and opened various businesses.


    Lockhart has several claims to fame. In 1999, the Texas Legislature proclaimed Lockhart the "Barbecue Capital of Texas" Lockhart major BBQ includes: Smitty's, Kreuz, Black's BBQ and Chisolm Trail, and Riley's.


     Lockhart as a "curiously eloquent" example of a Victorian post-frontier American town. Many movies used Lockhart as a shooting locations including:  Bernie, The Leftovers, The Newton Boys, The Transformers: Age of Extinction, Waiting for Guffman, What's Eating Gilbert Grape, Waking Life, and many more. 


    How to Get to Lockhart


     Located on the eastern edge of the fast growing central Texas Austin-San Antonio Corridor, Lockhart, Caldwell County is just 17 miles from I-35 and 17 miles from I-10. In addition, Lockhart is only 25 miles from the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport via Texas 130 / US-183.
